When Truth Gets Out Of Control. Closing Arguments
“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”
―Søren Kierkegaard
The dangers of believing in a perceived idea under the wing of a group party have left society where it is today. When I write about a blue and gold dress in this article, I am not telling a story of a dress. Instead, I am telling a story about organized religion, politics, and all other groups and organizations woven into modern society. And although many of them are necessary to keep people civil amongst each other, the hidden danger is when people forget they are arguing over personal perceived opinions. When a mob of people turns to each other for confirmation that they are not crazy, then blame those who oppose them as being crazy or stupid, their group bias only grows with anger.
It only takes one spark to start a forest fire. But once the forest fire is out of control, there is little to stop it until it burns itself out as it takes on a life of its own. However, the devastation the wildfire left behind can often be catastrophic.
The world witnessed this type of social collapse on January 6th, 2021, as the red party invaded The Capital Building as incited by a megalomaniac. People abandoned their individual reasoning and started to act like a mob on this day. The mob acted as a single unit under the idealistic threat against their rights. But only after hearing brainstorm and staring at a black and blue dress for too long. In other words, they were convinced to make others black and blue, whoever opposed their gold dress views.
Only moments before the coup of the Capital building, Donald Trump used performativity to motivate people to act. According to Triple-C, Trump used the words “fight,” “fights,” and “fighting” around 20 times during his speech. After getting the crowd charged up, he ended his speech with, “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators, and congressmen and women. We’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them because you’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong.” In essence, he repeated, “Brainstorm, brainstorm, brainstorm.” “Storm out and fight all who believe in the blue dress.”
Trump is already allegedly “for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution.” as he wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. At what point does Trump instruct his followers to commit mass genocide?
Jim Jones convinced 900 people to “drink the Kool-aid” in a protest against government. Joachim Friedrichs persuaded thousands of people into believing the Berlin wall was open, which caused them to amass. So why wouldn’t it work for Trump under the guise of conspiracy theories? Society currently balances in a precarious position.
Conclusion
There is still hope. Once we recognize the fire is out of control, we can all drop our torches and start carrying life-saving buckets of water to protect whom and what we can. Eventually, the fire will burn out. But we can’t let bullies and those who hold guns/torches rule the land.
Furthermore, after every forest fire, there is an undergrowth of new life that emerges. This new life is the hope of the future — it IS the future. The next generation needs to be taught what truth is and what truth is not. Instead of indoctrinating our youth and passing down the misinformation we were given as children, we should give them the tools to make this place better than we found it. Tools that include critical thinking, honesty with themselves and others, and better information than we were given.
Bertrand Russell not only told his story about an orbiting teapot in space. In addition, he wanted to point out the absurdity of people’s behavior based on their beliefs. Russell went on later to say something we should consider for ourselves, which applies to all ideologies, not only religion:
“I would never die for my beliefs because I could be wrong.” — Bertrand Russell, paraphrased.
In closing, know it’s okay to be wrong and have opinions — we are still only human. In contrast, it’s never okay to imagine ourselves as objectively right in a dangerous way over others. In that sense, we are worse than animals.
Yes, truth can be looked at in simple terms as subjective and objective. And so can personal reality be facilitated with objective reality — reality is synonymous with truth. But only see truth and reality in dualistic light once we take the time to educate what those two terms mean.
Most people live within the realm of subjective reality, but we still live in a real-life objective reality. As Ayn Rand once said, “We can ignore reality, but we cannot ignore the consequences of ignoring reality.”
Understanding the full concept of truth is fundamental to deciphering subjective Reality vs. objective Reality. Without the proper education on the layers of truth, we will always default to our gut instincts.
Because no matter how truth is sliced, the gut is where all the shit is stored. So when we make shit up, we only vomit our feelings to the world. Instead, we should be eating a slice of truth pie and sharing that with others instead of the shit.
Lastly, truth is not always objectively true, but it can still be used for a meaningful purpose. And much like science, truth does not have to be true; it only has to be useful. Therefore, I hope you take this message about truth and make it useful. Share the pie.
