Why do we cling to ‘thoughts and prayers’ like a child clings to a security blanket, fully aware it’s just fabric but somehow believing it offers protection against the monsters under the bed?

Frederick Douglass, a man who knew a thing or two about the harsh realities of life, famously said,

‘I prayed for freedom for twenty years, but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.’

This statement isn’t just witty banter; it’s a mighty sledgehammer to the glass house of passive spirituality.
