7 Children Will Die Today
Sadly, seven children will have had their lives snatched from them by undeserved gun violence. We can’t always act, but when we can we…
Imagine the end of your day. You perhaps read your kids a nighttime story, got them ready for bed, embraced each other, and parted with, “Love you.” At the same time, seven unfortunate families will end their day with, OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD” and “Why did this happen?” Because sadly, seven children will have had their lives snatched from them by undeserved gun violence. (nytimes.com) The families must look into those empty bedrooms and hear the devastating silence. Then somehow, face the reality of never seeing their child again.
“At the end of the day, let there be no excuses, no explanations, no regrets.”
–Steve Maraboli
Citizens have the ability and obligation to influence the much-needed change our world needs. We can’t always do something, but when we can, we must. Everyone can make a real difference. Yet, only if we pressure those holding mighty pens and get them to sign repeals. American citizens’ rights should be protected. Therefore Second Amendment laws should also include protection for those at the receiving end of all those firearms.
While half the citizens fight for their deadly weapons, we all should fight for the lives of children. Does it take a village? No, it takes a nation to raise a child. Children are everyone’s responsibility. So there must be a common ground where we all unite and agree on a practical solution that ends mass shootings.
With that said, who stands up for our children? Who is the voice for those who are told to hush? Who will take action for those who are defenseless? No child should ever have to stare down the barrel of a gun. Let alone be the receiving target of destruction.
From Columbine High School to Sandy Hook. To the Vegas massacre, then Parkland High School shooting. From the rackety copper bullets to the silent granite stones in the cemeteries. Enough is enough! How much further innocent blood must be spilled on American soil while we protect the sociopath’s right to bear arms?
The cries from the graveyards are as deafening as the screams from the schoolyards. The shots fired in schools nationwide should be enough and have our undivided attention. The children’s screams from the classroom should shake this nation to its core. We should be outraged against the atrocious acts of killers who hide behind their guns. Ruthless killers who hide behind the laws that allow them ownership of slaughter weapons.
The victims never asked for thoughts and prayers. Instead, they entrust you, me, and us all to help. How can we stand by and do nothing as our children are decimated?
I could only hope and “pray” that this article impacts those who read it. It is better to be alarmed by an article than by a phone call. Like a call that an active shooter fired a hailstorm of bullets at your child’s school. Or worse yet.
My “prayers” are not for deaf ears. Instead, my pleas are for President Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, House Republicans, House Democrats, Senate Democrats, Senate Republicans, and all the American people. This is a request to all who are capable of hearing just fine. I pray to all who can act, as in taking action — not the Slactivist’s pretend help.
We must act immediately! Our children’s lives depend on it. Will we come to their rescue or hide behind our phones? Will we be their savior? Or take one look around and say, “My friends and I send our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the great people of Earth. Good luck!” Then eventually go into our graves, never having left this world a better place to live than the way we inherited it.
If you want to do something about gun violence, consider the March For Our Lives foundation. Please take action. This organization puts its money where its mouth is by acting directly against gun misuse in America. Instead of simply offering idle expressions, they are an in-your-face group—a high-pressure body of concerned citizens who demand attention from elected officials and urge them to act.
Elected officials are the ones who change laws. We are the ones who influence those laws. Act, and be the influence. March For Our Lives was formed by many of the surviving students of the Marjory Stoneman Douglass, Parkland, Florida High School shooting. Today, the group is millions strong and transformed this tragedy into real-life action.
Even if you don’t stand with March For Our Lives, at least stand up for America and join or start a cause that makes a difference. Put pressure on our administration to act.
Lastly, the reader should know about the author of this article. I am not employed by any activist group. In fact, I don’t believe in tribalist herds. I mostly speak against them because when people get together in large groups, that’s usually when it all goes to hell. However, as a Nation in severe distress, it will take a group of reasonable citizens to stand up against the other group of passive and unconcerned citizens.
So I write my plea, not as an activist, but as a concerned father–a Dad who has children in public schools. Public schools have involuntarily been transformed into modern battlefields. Stand with those who want to act and do something today. This article is my petition to the world; to do something. This is me taking action, and I hope you will as well. And here’s how you can help.
The H.R.1808 bill would “make it a crime to knowingly import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess a semiautomatic assault weapon (SAW) or large capacity ammunition feeding device (LCAFD).”
“The Assault Weapons Ban of 2021–22 (H.R.1808) has passed the House and is off to the Senate. We need nationwide support and pressure to make sure this essential legislation gets voted on!”
